Agriculture is a profitable profession yet farmers are not the ones reaping the profits. For long others are earning profit while farmers are bearing the losses. MyCrop intends to partner corporates to help them help farmers using technology.
In spite of significant growth in agriculture, farmers in emerging economies right from the Senegal on western tip of Africa to Indonesia at the eastern tip of Asia continue to face serious challenges. These challenges are posing existential threats to the farmers in general and smallholder farmers in particular. Some of these challenges such as lack of resources, decreasing farm holding, input use efficacy and inefficiency, low productivity in farming operations, information and knowledge gaps, poor access to credit and insurance, low profitability of agriculture and limited access to markets needs holistic support from outside.
Farmers are key to our food security but they are fast losing hope. Despite the high price of food, real income growth of farmers has actually declined in the last five years because earnings were below rural inflation. Cereals, oilseeds and pulses that provide a livelihood to most small and marginal farmers, were the least profitable compared to fruit and vegetables, spices, cotton and sugarcane.
It is our duty as society to feed our feeders, Our Farmers
